Letter: Berkley helps the cause of Nevada’s disabled veterans
Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 | 9:17 a.m.
Nevada's disabled veterans have been paying for their own retirement for more than three generations. We are the only branch of government that is required to offset our disability dollar for dollar out of our armed forces retirement pay. Only Congresswoman Shelley Berkley, a Democrat, has shown enough backbone to help the veterans and is our champion in the House.
Nevada's other two congressmen, Jon Porter and Jim Gibbons, both Republicans, have decided it's better to please the administration than to help Nevada's disabled veterans.
Tens of thousands of disabled veterans from World War II to the Persian Gulf War are coming together now and our rallying cry will be: "Out the door in '04" for those in Congress who do not show the desire to help the veterans.
