Letter: Gibbons names nations helping in terrorism war
Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003 | 8:57 a.m.
A writer recently "challenged" me to name the 30 nations supporting the United States in our war on terrorism being fought in Afghanistan and in Iraq (Letter to the Editor: "Many reasons to be skeptical about Iraq war," Oct. 3).
It is my pleasure to name the countries contributing in the effort to protect freedom at home and abroad to both the letter's author and the readers of the Las Vegas Sun. In fact, I hope that the media would publicize more the great commitment of our allies and our successes in this war -- which I have seen first-hand. After all, the public depends on the media for much of this information.
The countries with ground troops fighting alongside the U.S. in Iraq include: Albania, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Georgia, El Salvador, Estonia, Honduras, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Mongolia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. Further, Turkey's parliament has authorized the use of Turkish troops to assist our coalition.
This truly is a global effort.
