Rainbow to benefit from Thunder Down Under

"Thunder From Down Under" will host a second annual benefit show for the Golden Rainbow, a nonprofit group that serves people with HIV and AIDS, 2 p.m. Sunday in Merlin's Theater at the Excalibur.

Australia's all-male revue will present a special afternoon performance to raise money for Golden Rainbow.

"Proceeds benefit our mission to provide housing and direct financial assistance to people with HIV/AIDS in Southern Nevada," Golden Rainbow President Paul Speirs said.

Tickets are $40 for VIP and $25 for general admission. Seats are limited. Call (702) 384-2899 for reservations.

Job fair planned at NLV Library

The North Las Vegas Library District will host a free job fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the library, 2300 Civic Center Drive.

The purpose of the fair is to acquaint residents with potential employers.

Employers participating in the event include the city, Clark County, Job Corps, Wal-Mart, Silver Nugget Casino and Community College of Southern Nevada.

Boating safety grants available

The Clark County Boat Facilities and Safety Committee is accepting grant proposals from agencies and organizations interested in promoting boating safety on local waterways.

Grant applications can be picked up at and returned to the Clark County manager's office, County Government Center, sixth Floor, 500 S. Grand Central Parkway. Applications can be returned to April Turner.

Bereavement support class is scheduled

Temple Beth Sholom will offer a bereavement support group class from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive.

Led by Nancy L. Caldwell, a licensed clinical social worker specializing in grief and loss, the bereavement group is intended to be a safe place and a compassionate environment in which people can verbalize feelings associated with the loss of a loved one.

Also, Temple Beth Sholom will present its Homebound Senior Outreach and Socialization program from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the temple, 10700 Havenwood Lane.

The event is free and will include a lunch.

Shelley Berkley will speak

about her recent trip to Israel at noon Sunday at the Las Vegas Country Club, 3000 Joe W. Brown Road, during at luncheon given by the Rishona Chapter of Hadassah. The rituals of Sukkot will be observed. Entertainment will feature New Life member Fern Jennings and the Happy Hoofers song and dance troupe. Call Barbara Figler at 735-8725 to register.

The Augustus Society

will present the Italian American of the Year award at its annual Columbus Day Ball at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at The Venetian. The Augustus Society is a nonprofit organization of Italian-American professional men and women dedicated to improving the education, well-being and positive image of the Italian-American community in Clark County.
