Siegfried: ‘We’ll get through this together’

SUN STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

Despite reports in a German newspaper quoting Siegfried Fischbacher declaring "our show will go on," local officials associated with Siegfried & Roy say the show is closed.

Fischbacher told the German Bild newspaper Tuesday that partner Roy Horn was able to raise his hand in a "V" for victory sign at the University Medical Center, where he is in critical condition after being attacked Friday by a 600-pound white tiger while performing before a crowd of 1,500 at The Mirage.

"He's the strongest person in the world. We'll get through this together," Fischbacher told Bild. "I'm sure he'll recover completely. He's over the worst."

The newspaper also quoted Fischbacher as saying he was sure the pair would be able to appear again, noting: "Our show will go on."

But officials at the Mirage, where the German-born duo has performed since 1990, said the show is closed indefinitely. The show's 267 employees have been told to look for new jobs.

The duo's manager of 28 years, Bernie Yuman, said in response to the German newspaper report: "It's just speculation on my part, but maybe there was a misinterpretation in the translation (from German to English).

"The show is closed. There is no other show planned. Our concern now is for Roy's survival and recovery."
