MINNETONKA, Minn. -- Musicland Group Inc. will close 150 of its Sam Goody and Suncoast Motion Picture Co. stores by the end of the year, the company said.
The closings cover 13 percent of the retailer's 1,119 stores. The privately held company announced the moves to employees Tuesday but declined to specify which locations would be jettisoned.
In the Las Vegas area there are three Suncoast stores, one each at the Galleria at Sunset, The Boulevard and The Meadows malls. Sam Goody also has a store at the Galleria at Sunset mall in Henderson.
The company will lay off 900 employees, including a "handful" of staff at its Minnetonka, Minn., headquarters, a spokeswoman said.
