Recall petition of Guinn still going forward
Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003 | 10:53 a.m.
CARSON CITY -- The efforts to recall Gov. Kenny Guinn are still going forward to collect 128,000 signatures by Nov. 25, a spokesman for the movement said today.
Christopher Hansen, vice chairman of the Guinn Recall Group, said it was "absolutely incorrect" that the drive has failed.
He said there are 12,000 signatures counted so far and there are signatures from Northern Nevada including Reno that have not been tallied. "I even have 200 signatures in my truck" that have not been counted.
The group may file a suit to extend the deadline, he said.
Hansen added the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled in other cases that a recall movement could count the signatures it had already gathered and get a new time period in which to collect the names of more voters.
He said he was "shocked" by a newspaper report that the recall movement had failed.
