Governor says Lincoln Park needs new owner

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Gov. Don Carcieri wants a new owner at Lincoln Park, saying he won't negotiate a $50 million expansion at the dog track with a company facing federal bribery charges.

Carcieri met Tuesday with Claes Hultman, chairman of Wembley PLC, the British parent of Lincoln Park and Aurora, Colo.-based Wembley USA, which is backing a ballot measure to add video gambling at Colorado racetracks.

Carcieri said he's unwilling to negotiate with Wembley PLC because of the bribery charges, said Carcieri's chief of staff, Kenneth McKay IV.

A 22-count indictment handed up last month names Daniel Bucci, the park's chief executive officer, and Nigel Potter, who was a top executive with Wembley. The park itself is named as a corporate defendant.
