Man gets four life sentences after conviction for two slayings

Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003 | 9:30 a.m.

Jamal "Popcorn" Johnson received four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole after being convicted of murder in two shooting deaths in September 2001 that authorities say were the result of a drug deal gone bad.

Johnson was sentenced Thursday in District Court for the murders of Patrick Hawkins and Adrian Williams, both of whom were found with multiple gunshot wounds in or just outside 205 W. Jackson St.

Police said Johnson and other members of the Rolling 60s Crips went to the location to execute a "drug rip-off."

A jury also found Johnson guilty of burglary and conspiracy to commit robbery.
