VegasBeat — Timothy McDarrah: Holmes, Easton lead ‘Live’ crew

Just one month to go until "Live from Las Vegas with Clint Holmes and Sheena Easton."

The Vegas-centric "Live with Regis and Kelly"-style morning chat show is a replacement for the morning Las Vegas ONE cable show "DayONE Las Vegas" and will also be offered for sale in syndication. The show will feature Patty Chong as the entertainment reporter (she had been first slotted as a co-host). The Bootlegger Bistro's karaoke queen, Kelly Clinton, will also have an on-air presence.

Another ingredient to the show's success might be KLAS Channel 8 weather forecaster Mark Pfister. He will not do weather reports on the show, but instead will riff on the news in his own inimitable manner. Pfister's melange is part Dennis Miller, part James Thurber and part Bugs Bunny -- with a little Lenny Bruce tossed in for shock value.

Rehearsals started three weeks ago, and the show's tentative broadcast debut is the first week of November, says Howard Lefkowitz, president of VEGAS.com, which is co-producing the show with Las Vegas ONE. Both entities are part of the Greenspun Media Group, which is a sister company of the Las Vegas Sun.

Vegas follows us everywhere. While visiting family in New York City last weekend we bumped into Robin Leach. He was leaving Trump Tower and VegasBeat was heading to the nearby FAO Schwarz flagship store.

Leach had just interviewed Donald Trump for his upcoming ABC special, "Life of Luxury," scheduled to air during the November sweeps period.

Seems that the billionaire developer (Trump is at No. 71 on the new Forbes 400 list with a net worth of $2.5 billion) is looking at Vegas, hard. He told Leach on camera that after he winds up projects in Chicago and Palos Verdes, Calif., he wants to develop a Las Vegas casino. This would be in addition to his Trump Tower West project with Phil Ruffin.

Kevin Pollack, in town to host tapings at the Palms of the new Bravo series "Celebrity Poker Showdown," had dinner Thursday night at Aureole (Mandalay Bay).

McCormick & Schmick Seafood Restaurant is having a "see food" promotion.

During the month of October the popular Hughes Center dining emporium is inviting patrons to bring in a pair of eyeglasses in exchange for a free dessert.

The specs will all be sent to a local recycling center and distributed to needy individuals.

The program is being done in conjunction with The Lions Club International Sight First program.

The highly anticipated Quentin Tarantino film "Kill Bill, Vol. I" opens Friday. VegasBeat saw an advance screening of the martial-arts revenge tale.

We'd have given it a "thumbs up" -- but we fear that Uma Thurman, who stars, would have sliced it off. We'll just say that the movie features lots of swords.

The film's opening line is destined to become a catchphrase for a generation, and the twist at the end is about as stunning as the famous secret at the end of "The Crying Game," another Miramax film. We'll have more to say when it opens Friday, which is also when Roger Ebert weighs in with his review in this paper.

Friday night the East Harmon Avenue club ICE is having what it is billing as the "Official VIP Premiere Party" for the film.

Chef Kerry Simon will be in New York City this week for a dinner at the famous 21 Club restaurant.

He will not be cooking. Instead, he'll be honored by Esquire magazine for his Simon Kitchen and Bar at the Hard Rock Hotel being selected as one of the nation's best new restaurants.

Also, the restaurant is in the new Gourmet magazine in the America's Greatest Restaurants section.

As an addendum to his recent bankruptcy petition, Mike Tyson late last week filed an expense schedule with the court, along with an inventory of personal property at his Tomiyasu Lane mansion in Las Vegas.

Among the items noted were 88 books, 718 videotapes, 16 televisions, two chessboards, a blender, a can opener, 194 wall-mounted pictures, seven plants and 10 stuffed animals.

And, despite his financial woes, Iron Mike still likes to look sharp -- out of the ring, at least.

The filing details that he currently spends an estimated $18,680.18 per month on clothes. Quite a figure, especially considering the man usually doesn't wear socks in the boxing ring.

There was no specific amount noted for facial tattoos.
