Lake Mead anglers have reported good success for striped bass throughout the lower basin to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW). Boaters fishing in the area of Saddle Cove, Sand Island and the Hemenway wall landed stripers that ranged from 2-3 pounds.
Anchovies were landing the fish. Boaters in the Pumphouse Cove area also reported good success and that stripers weighing up to 4 pounds were feeding on threadfin shad. Shore anglers had limited success because the fish were out of casting range.
NDOW creels census clerks said that anglers fishing the upper basin were also having very good success for largemouth bass. Boaters fishing in the vicinity of St. Thomas and Fish Island were landing fish that ranged from 1 1/2-2 pounds. Crankbait was the bait of choice.
Boaters fishing upper basin of the lake were very successful. Anglers fishing from Ann Margaret Cove to Echo Bay were landing striped bass that ranged from 12-22 inches. Forty-two fish were creeled. They were taken with crankbait, which is very rare. One boater caught two largemouth bass that averaged 2 1/2 pounds in the same area, also with crankbait.
Cottonwood Cove anglers said that stripers were really active this past week. A total of 108 stripers that were 15 inches and larger were taken with anchovies.
Largemouth bass fishing was good. Anglers using various lures were finding success landing fish that averaged 12 inches.
