Family fishing set at Lake Las Vegas

The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring two family fishing days from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 15 at Lake Las Vegas.

Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All equipment is provided, but families may opt to bring their own gear. Fishing licenses are not required.

Participants will meet at the Village Dock at Lake Las Vegas. Round-trip transportation from Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St., to Lake Las Vegas is available on Oct. 15.

Pre-registration for the event and transportation is required.

Participation is $25.

Toy train meet scheduled Saturday

The Toy Train Operating Society's Train Meet will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Hall, 760 N. Lamb Blvd.

Admission is $4; children 16 and under are free.

The event will offer hot dogs, chips, sodas, coffee and cookies at the snack bar.

Classes planned for master gardeners

The North Las Vegas Desert Demonstration Garden, 2200 Civic Center Drive, is offering a free series of classes on how to be a master gardener.

Classes will be from 10 a.m. to noon. The six-week course begins Saturday and continues through Nov. 8.

Participants may attend any or all of these sessions: Introduction to Landscaping, Gardening for the Small Yard or Patio, Environmentally Friendly Pest Control, Fruit Tree Selection and Care, Prepare Your Landscape for Winter, and Grow Beautiful Roses in the Desert.

Parents, get those car seats checked

The Family to Family Connection at University Medical Center and Clark County Safe Kids are offering free car seat checks from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Family Resource Center at UMC, 1120 Shadow Lane.

Trained car seat technicians will check the car seat to make sure it's installed properly. Car seats not installed correctly will be re-installed. Parents and expectant parents are encouraged to attend the event to ensure that their child's car seat is properly installed.

Cottonwood Cove Marina

will begin it seventh annual Ecology Dive and Environmental Clean Up with registration at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Lake Mohave. The clean-up event will offer snacks, refreshments, prizes and a barbecue, all complimentary. For more information, call 293-5985.
