Teamsters picket home builders association

Teamsters Union members picket outside the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association office in Las Vegas on Tuesday. They claim the home building industry has failed to properly train and certify workers under its Quality Assurance Program. Union officials said they would also like to organize the home building industry in Las Vegas, but that was not the point of the protest. However, Irene Porter, executive director of the Home Builders Association, said the quality issue was just an excuse for the unions to picket. Porter said home builders are building quality homes and that state and local regulators ensure they meet quality standards. She pointed out contractors must prove their competence in order to receive state licenses.
