A Nellis Air Force Base pilot has been awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses for his actions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Capt. Scott Ulmer, an F-16 instructor pilot at the Air Force Weapons School at Nellis, was presented the awards by Air Force Chief of Staff Gen John P. Jumper.
Ulmer received the honor after putting himself at personal risk on several occasions while protecting other aircraft, destroying a surface-to-air missile radar in southeastern Baghdad and destroying enemy air defenses in March.
Throughout the missions, Ulmer was forced to defend himself against enemy fire and had to jettison his external fuel tanks in order to speed his exit from the areas.
Ulmer survived the enemy fire and was successful in his attacks.
