Fishing report: Spot lures help land 28 stripers

NDOW creel census clerks said that the weather continued to affect fishing throughout the upper and lower basins of Lake Mead. Fishing pressure continued to be low.
Boaters fishing around St. Thomas and Ann Marguret Cove took a few striped bass. The fish averaged two pounds and were taken with crank bait and anchovies.
Anglers fishing for largemouth bass reported a drop in success from the previous week. A few fish that averaged 2 pounds were taken with crank bait.
Shore anglers fishing in the Las Vegas Bay area reported good success for stripers that ranged from 1 1/2-2 pounds. The fish were taken with anchovies.
Anglers fishing in Pumphouse Cove on Monday landed 28 stripers using Spot lures.
Stripers were also reported boiling in open water in North Saddle Cove on Tuesday. Anglers that locate shad should find stripers nearby.
NDOW is scheduled to stock Hemenway Cove, Horsepower Cove, Pumphouse Cove and North Saddle Cove on Saturday .
One angler that fished landed catfish that weighed in at 3 1/2, 4 1/2 and 6 1/2 pounds. Anchovies were catching the fish.
Cottonwood Cove anglers reported good success for striped bass. Numerous stripers that ranged from 11-29 pounds were taken in the vicinity of mile marker 52.
The fish were taken with anchovies, generic trout lures, and O'Henry lures. A spear fisherman landed stripers that weighed in at 20, 25, and 28 1/2 pounds.
NDOW is scheduled to stock Placer Cove, Willow Beach, Power Line Cove, and Cottonwood Cove on Saturday.
A few anglers that fished reported moderate success for stocked rainbow trout on Cold Springs and Haymeadow Reservoirs. The fish ranged from 12-14 inches. PowerBait landed the fish.
Daytime temperatures were in the low 50s while the nights have dropped down into the high teens. The water is free of ice.
