Motorcade caused few delays

Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003 | 9:34 a.m.

President Bush's motorcade zipped along empty freeways and roads Tuesday, stalling local traffic for up to 20 minutes in some areas.

Metro traffic Lt. Wayne Petersen, who rode in the motorcade, said that overall the motorcade moved very well.

"There were some delays, but we were able to keep them between five and 15 minutes for the most part," Petersen said. "We may have had the airport tunnel closed for about 15 to 20 minutes at one point, but there were no unexpected problems."

Bush was taken on along a pre-arranged path of cleared roadways flanked by about 30 police motorcycles and Secret Service sport utility vehicles.

Metro Police and Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers shut down intersections before the motorcade got to them and then reopened them after it had passed by.
