Letter: Lack of respect causes accidents

Just why is it that state Sen. Barbara Cegavske, R-Las Vegas, and those of like mind think that another law will prevent teen driving accidents? Speed, alcohol and running stop signs were causes of recent crashes involving teenagers.
There are laws against all of the above situations and still deaths occurred. Do people really think making a law prohibiting newly licensed teens from having groups of other teens in their cars will be respected any more than the other laws already on the books?
All accidents are tragic, not just those involving the novice driver. Until people start having respect for the damaging abilities of their vehicles, which increase with speed, respect for other people on the road and in the walkways, and respect for the laws already created for everyone's protection, tragic accidents will continue to happen.
And Sen. Cegavske, don't even think about making a law against disrespect. The jails couldn't hold all the offenders. But here's a thought: What about more enforcement of the speed limits for adult role models, so teen drivers wouldn't be as tempted keep up with the flow of traffic.
