Letter: Bush’s ‘photo op’ on aircraft carrier was premature
Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003 | 8:48 a.m.
We have all seen the "photo op" of George W. Bush, dressed up as a combat aviator, landing on the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln to announce the end of hostilities in Iraq. We also saw him from the White House Rose Garden say in response questions about the resistance of the Iraqis, "Bring 'em on."
Since the above events occurred, the number of deaths in Iraq have continued to mount almost daily. It has not been just Americans -- the numbers also include Iraqis, Poles and Italians.
It is interesting to note that both Japan and Turkey have now decided not to send troops to Iraq; it continues to be a dangerous place. You also don't see any of the Bush clan represented in the service in Iraq. All you see is the president and his advisers in their safe haven and shelters in the U.S., with George W. surrounded and protected by the Secret Service.
