Three-Tour Challenge at Lake Las Vegas

The Wendy's Three-Tour Challenge returns to Las Vegas on Tuesday, with competition among pros from the PGA, LPGA, and Champions Tour for a purse of $850,000.

The event will be played at the Reflection Bay Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas, with a scheduled first tee time of 8:30 a.m. Admission is free to the public, with tickets available at the gate on Tuesday.

Although played Tuesday, the event will be televised next month on ABC. The Challenge is scheduled to air Dec. 20 and 21.

The PGA team, which won last year's event, is comprised of Rich Beem, Peter Jacobsen, and Mark Calcavecchia. For the LPGA, Grace Park, Rachel Teske, and Juli Inkster will compete. Teaming for the Champions will be Hale Irwin, Craig Stadler, and Tom Kite.

The tournament, which features events stretched out over nearly a week, raises money for charity. Last year's event raised more than $2 million for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

Oklahoma unamimous

Oklahoma remained the unanimous pick for the top spot in the Associated Press college football poll. The Sooners received all 65 first-place votes in balloting by the panel of sports writers and broadcasters Sunday. The Sooners have been No. 1 every week since the preseason.

Southern California remained second this week, followed by LSU, Michigan and Georgia. The Wolverines moved up a spot after beating then-No. 4 Ohio State 35-21 Saturday. The defending national champion Buckeyes fell to eighth.

Players test positive

Four unidentified baseball players tested positive for banned drugs during the recent World Cup and Americas Olympic qualifying tournaments. There were two positives out of 52 tests at the Oct. 12-25 World Cup in Havana and two positives of 34 samples at this month's Olympic qualifier in Panama City, Panama, the international baseball federation said Monday.

Miller retains lead

Defending World Cup slalom champion Kalle Palander of Finland won the season-opening race Sunday, and American Bode Miller retained his overall lead despite being disqualified after falling on his first run in Park City, Utah. Miller, coming off a victory in the giant slalom Saturday, fell at the end of the first run. He still leads the World Cup overall standings with wins in both GS events this season.
