Letter: Bidding for Iraq rebuilding is fair
Monday, Nov. 24, 2003 | 8:46 a.m.
During all this time since our incursion into Iraq, it has struck a lot of us thinking Americans that the vast quantities of oil that exist under the sands of Iraq had something to do with our sudden declaration of war against that country.
So many lies -- so many lame excuses. Nobody thought Saddam would qualify as Mr. Nice Guy, but there was not enough proof to believe he was behind Sept. 11.
Now I read that the Army Corps of Engineers, in its late awakening to the truth, has finally come to a true American decision to institute a fair-bidding contest instead of letting Vice President Dick Cheney's former company, Halliburton, get a no-bid deal, which is un-American.
It was no surprise to read that Halliburton overcharged the U.S. government in its no-bid contract. What do you expect from this administration that was so anxious to get us into this horrible war, which has unnecessarily claimed so many lives?
