Reputed mobster dropped from list after his death

Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 | 9:36 a.m.

The Nevada Gaming Commission voted Thursday to remove reputed mob hit man Marshall Caifano from its list of excluded persons from casinos, otherwise known as the Black Book.

Caifano, who recently died in Florida at age 92, no longer posed a threat to the casino industry, the commission said.

Born Marchello Caifano in New York City, Caifano moved to Chicago as a youth and by the mid 1950s was looking out for the Chicago mob's interests in Las Vegas after earning a reputation as a hit man, bank robber and bookmaker, officials said.

Caifano was added to Nevada's exclusion list in 1960 and had been living in Fort Lauderdale following his release from prison several years ago.
