Sewer rate increase approved
Las Vegas City Council on Wednesday approved a sewer rate increase along with a hike in the cost developers pay to connect to the sewer system.
The connection fee of $1,200 will rise to $1,680 over two years, and sewer customers' annual bills will increase from an average of $138.80 to $204.04 over two years.
In addition to the sewer rate increases, the city approved a new fee -- called a right-of-way assessment -- of 5 percent, meant to offset the cost of the city's use of the streets for the sewer lines.
Post office grant to be accepted
The Las Vegas City Council accepted a $250,000 federal grant for a project that would turn the downtown post office into a museum.
Added to money previously committed to the project, there is now $1.6 million available.
City officials have said the project would cost several million dollars, and consultants now are working on figuring what will be in the building.
