Three suspects arrested in man’s kidnapping at casino
Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 | 9:34 a.m.
Metro Police arrested three people in the investigation of the kidnapping of a man from Palace Station early Thursday.
Kidnappers forced the victim into the trunk of his car and used his automated teller card to withdraw cash from his bank account.
While driving the victim around, the kidnappers made him get out of the car and remove his clothing, Lt. Ted Snodgrass said, then took pictures of him using a cell phone camera.
"I think they wanted to prevent him from escaping," he said. "It's awful."
Snodgrass said the victim, who is in his 20s, knew the kidnappers, who around midnight threatened the victim and slapped him around, then forced him into the trunk of his car. They drove around to various ATMs, withdrawing money using his card. Snodgrass declined to say how much money was allegedly stolen.
At some point, the suspects made the victim get out and take off his clothes, then ordered him into the trunk of a different car that had been stolen, Snodgrass said.
About 6 a.m., people in the parking lot of Palace Station, 2411 W. Sahara Ave., heard suspicious sounds coming from the trunk of a car and called police.
"He was making a lot of noise," Snodgrass said.
Police opened the trunk and found the victim inside. Arrested were 22-year-old Renee Cornejo, 23-year-old Roberto Gurrero and 26-year-old Shannon Kane. Police charged them with kidnapping, robbery and related offenses.
Two of the suspects were arrested in the parking lot of the central Las Vegas casino. The third suspect was arrested at the Sundance apartments on West Charleston Boulevard near Rainbow Boulevard. The victim's car was also found there.
