Jeff Jacobsen became the sixth Community College of Southern Nevada baseball player to sign with a major Division I program Wednesday, the first day of the early-signing period.
A 6-foot-7 right-handed pitcher out of Durango High, Jacobsen committed to UNLV coach Buddy Gouldsmith.
"He had always wanted to go there," said CCSN coach Tim Chambers. "They came and watched him pitch during our (fall practice), liked what they saw and offered him a pretty good deal."
Third baseman Mike Cruz, a Reno native, also signed with the Rebels on Wednesday, which Chambers called a landmark day because of the quality of programs to which his players accepted scholarship offers.
Outfielder Calvin Beamon and pitcher/first baseman Tyler Coon signed with Texas, pitcher Jabe Beard committed to Tennessee and shortstop Sean Kazmar inked a deal with Georgia.
The Coyotes won the NJCAA World Series in May in the fourth year of their program.
