School District plans Magnet Schools Fair

The Clark County School District's Magnet Schools Project Office will hold the Magnet Schools Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Galleria at Sunset mall in Henderson.

Parents, students and members of the community are welcome to attend the fair for a "one-stop shopping" opportunity to learn all about the district's 16 magnet programs.

Representatives from the district and the magnet program schools will be available to answer questions and to explain the application process.

Girl Talk scheduled at Greenspun Center

Girl Talk, a class for mothers and their daughters, ages 10-14, to learn and discuss changes that a girls body goes through during this period of adolescence, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Barbara Greenspun WomensCare Center of Excellence, 100 N. Green Valley Parkway, Suite No. 330.

The class will be conducted by pediatrician Dr. Kim Lamotte-Malone and will give moms and daughters the opportunity to learn about how these changes affect physical and emotional development.

Mutts 'n Masters run scheduled Saturday

The Las Vegas Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center is sponsoring its first Mutts 'n Masters 5k/1 mile fun run at 8 a.m. Saturday at the center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive.

The "Masters and Muttsters" of the ceremony will be Las Vegas Councilwoman Lynette Boggs McDonald and her dog, Vijay, and KVBC Channel 3 Weatherman John Fredericks and his dog, Jordan.

Admission is $30 for the 5k; $25 for the walk; or $20 for the 5k or $15 for the 1 mile fun run before Saturday.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers, in each age category.

Nathan Adelson Hospice anniversary event set

The 25th anniversary gala to benefit Nathan Adelson Hospice will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Bali Hai Golf Club's Cili Restaurant, 5160 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The event includes a champagne reception, silent auction, dinner with wine parings by some of the community's premier chefs, dancing and entertainment.

For the silent auction, the "Step up to the Plate" program features the artistic talents of local and national celebrities, political figures and local artists, who have created ceramic platters.

The third annual Festival of Talent

Arts and Crafts Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Las Vegas, 1515 W. Charleston Blvd. The free fair will feature handmade arts and craft items, refreshment booths and entertainment by the church's choir and musical ensembles. Call 384-4554.

Spring Mountains National Recreation Area

District Office is accepting applications from qualified concessionaires to operate and maintain year-round recreation sites in Kyle and Lee canyons. Chabad of Green Valley

will hold a Shabbaton at 6 p.m. Friday at the Chabad Center, 10870 S. Eastern Ave., Suite 104, Henderson (Behind the Animal Hospital) south of Horizon Ridge.
