Boulder City to offer growth plan

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003 | 9:39 a.m.

Boulder City's plan for development probably won't change much under a proposed city comprehensive plan to be presented to the City Council and Planning Commission on Wednesday.

"For the most part, things are the same," City Planner Susan Danielewicz said. "There are some changes around the old airport area, but the large pieces of empty land are still proposed to be empty."

Councilman Roger Tobler said some residents might be surprised that the old airport area is identified as a future growth area. Not because of where it is, which is on the west side of the city near the new Boulder Creek Golf Club, but because they are surprised the city is labeling any area as a potential growth area.

Boulder City has a slow-growth law that limits new home construction to 120 a year.

Tobler said residents should remember that this is a long-term plan, the last comprehensive plan was adopted in 1991.

"This gives us direction and shows us what we have," Tobler said. "It's just a responsible way to plan for the future."

The Wednesday meeting will begin at 4 p.m. in Council Chambers at Boulder City Hall.

Within a few weeks, the plan will be reviewed by the Planning Commission, before going to the Boulder City Council for adoption.
