Man found shot to death is ID'd

A Las Vegas man who was shot to death shortly before midnight on Wednesday has been identified as Alvin Taylor, Jr., 33, the coroner's office said.

Metro Police patrol officers, arriving in the 700 block of North Main Street after a report of a shooting, found the victim lying face down outside a room at a motel, Sgt. Kevin Manning said.

The victim had been shot several times and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, police said.

Apparently the victim and two men exchanged heated words when one or both of the men pulled guns and opened fire, striking the victim several times, police said.

Several witnesses reported seeing two men, one a black man between 30 and 40 years of age, 6 feet tall, about 225 pounds, medium build, bald and wearing a gray and blue plaid shirt and khaki pants. The other man was described as a black man 30 to 40 years old, about 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, slim build, bald and wearing a dark shirt and jeans.

They were seen leaving in a 1970s or '80s Datsun 280Z with gray primer, tinted windows, a loud muffler and no plates, witnesses told police.

A possible street name for one of the suspects is "D," police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Metro's homicide section at 229-3521.

Man arrested in stabbing death

A 19-year-old drifter has been arrested and charged with the stabbing death of a homeless man, Metro Police said.

Louis Arturo Perez, no permanent address, was in custody at the Clark County Detention Center, Metro Lt. Tom Monahan said Thursday.

Two men got into an argument in the parking lot of a McDonald's in the 2900 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South about 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 9, police said. As the argument escalated, one man stabbed the other.

The suspect and victim were both described by witnesses as being homeless.
