Letter: Clinton is key to 2004 race
Monday, Nov. 3, 2003 | 8:52 a.m.
Let's recruit former President Bill Clinton to run in 2004 for vice president. It is constitutionally legal. It is the only way to have someone on the Democratic ticket who can energize the party, raise equal amounts of campaign money and generate enough media coverage to make the 2004 election competitive and not just a shoo-in for Bush-Cheney and a Republican majority in Congress.
Clinton believes that politics should be about the future, but we need him in our present so we can have a future! With Bill Clinton as vice president, along with a Democratic president, America knows the economy would be righted. Many new jobs would be created, states would receive federal funds, and our successful social programs -- including Medicare and Social Security as well as the environment -- would be protected. Also, our global relations would be repaired, which would benefit our military.
President Clinton's legacy would be greatly enhanced if he makes major sacrifices, rolls up his sleeves and goes back to work for the American people. It is how he would be remembered in the history books. And, it would get Bush-Cheney out!
