Vegas flight schedule returning to normal

Las Vegas' only nonstop flights from Asia will return to a normal schedule next month, local travel experts said.

Japan Airlines, which offers nonstop flights three times a week from Tokyo to Las Vegas and one-stop flights three times a week on the return trip, will continue its normal schedule after two months of sporadic service cuts resulting from demand downturns related to fears about the war in Iraq and the outbreak of SARS.

Dennis Casteel of Green Valley Travel said computer schedules indicate JAL's full slate of flights are available for sale beginning in June. Airline officials could not be reached for comment today.

Tokyo-based JAL canceled four of its 12 flights in April and nine of its 13 flights in May.

This year, the airline has flown about 5,000 passengers a month to and from Las Vegas and Tokyo. According to McCarran International Airport statistics, the number of Las Vegas-bound passengers on JAL fell from 4,196 people in January to 2,024 in April.
