Get tips on stopping auto theft

Henderson and Metro Police will be holding an auto theft prevention day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Fiesta Henderson.

Free vehicle identification etching and the Allstate car dismantling team will be featured.

Also, both police departments will be introducing the "Watch Your Car" program, in which car owners register their car with the police and receive free decals to display in the car's back and front windows.

The decal lets police know the car isn't usually in use during the hours of 1 and 5 a.m., when the majority of thefts occur, Henderson Police Officer Shane Lewis said.

If an officer sees the car being driven during those hours, the officer has the authority to pull it over, determine if it has been stolen and notify the owner.
