Opportunity Village to open boutique
Opportunity Village and radion personality Melanie from KMZQ 100.5-FM will host the opening of Melanie's Closet from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the village's Thrift Store, 4110 S. Maryland Parkway.
There will be a fashion show by University of Nevada, Las Vegas' Delta Zeta sorority featuring fashion trends from Melanie's Closet.
This is the second Melanie's Closet boutique of four planned by Opportunity Village, the not-for-profit organization serving people with intellectual disabilities. For more information, visit www.opportunityvillage.org.
SpiritFest set this weekend
The SpiritFest 2003 Family Festival will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park, Boulder City.
The event will feature 19 bands, a street rod car show, BMX Bike Tournament, Splash Water park, food and beverages.
Admission is $35; $15 for children.

Special Olympics event scheduled
Track and field competition in the Special Olympics will take place 2 p.m. Friday at UNLV.
More than 700 school-aged athletes will compete in the first ever school-based track meet.
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with developmental disabilities free of charge. The pilot program, sponsored and funded by Special Olympics Nevada, is expected to have a positive influence on the lives of the 17,000 students in the Clark County School District who qualify for the programs.

A Concert for Compassion,
an evening of music and poetry, will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at Cafe Espresso Roma, 4440 Maryland Parkway. The event is for aide to the Iraqi people. Suggested donation is $5.
The Arthritis Foundation
will hold it's second annual Arthritis Walk at 8 a.m. Saturday at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, to raise benefit the organization. For more information, call 367-1626.
