Columnist Muriel Stevens: Carolee can be had for a song

Internationally known jewelry and accessories designer Carolee will join with Opera Las Vegas for a special performance at the Carolee boutique at the Fashion Show mall from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Baritone Robert Tota will sing selections from "Carmen," "Man of La Mancha," "The Barber of Seville" and "Phantom of the Opera." During this event 20 percent of all sales will be donated to Opera Las Vegas.

Carolee's latest spring jewelry and accessories collection will be featured. Founder Carolee has made generous contributions to many causes. Families of 9-11 victims benefitted from funds raised through the sale of her patriotic American Flag pin collection; $250,000 was raised.

Louis Vuitton at Forum Shops: On June 19 Louis Vuitton will host a special event in celebration of the relocation of its Forum Shops at Caesars Louis Vuitton store. This new Louis Vuitton is one of only eight Global stores in the country.

Louis Vuitton Global stores feature the complete collections of Louis Vuitton -- luggage, handbags, leather goods, accessories, watches, jewelry and shoes, but specifically the men's and women's ready-to-wear (there are four Lois Vuitton outlets in Las Vegas, but none carry the RTW).

Having a Louis Vuitton Global store in Las Vegas is more recognition of the national and international impact Las Vegas is having on shopping as well as dining and entertainment.

Brighton Collectibles opens at Forum Shops: Brighton Collectibles celebrated the opening of its newest store in the Forum Shops Tuesday with a runway fashion show featuring the full line of Brighton Collectibles and "delicious treats," from Spago. The event was a benefit for Junior League of Las Vegas. Through Friday $5 from each purchase at any Las Vegas Brighton Collectibles store will go to the Junior League.

Brighton Collectibles is owned and operated by the Borsack family, longtime Las Vegas residents and founders of the El Portal Luggage stores. The first El Portal store on Fremont Street was the first of its kind in Nevada.

La Isla Uniforms: La Isla Uniforms in Los Angeles has opened a branch in Las Vegas at 967 E. Sahara Ave. This huge showroom is open daily from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Featured are uniforms and accessories at "factory outlet prices." La Isla offers uniforms and accessories for medical, security, casino and restaurant personnel.

Free, at the libraries: Spend a few hours at one of the gallery exhibits at libraries around town. Many libraries are featuring exhibits by local Asian artists for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.

Through Sunday, Terry Fukuoka, a member of the Nevada Watercolor Society, will present her landscapes and floral works.

Exhibiting in two locations is George Chen, who will show his large format textile collages. The colorful fabrics are stamped, printed and stitched and reference "the many aspects of his childhood memories about the Buddhist belief in reincarnation."

Call 734-7323 for a list of library locations and exhibits. The list includes other current exhibits and continuing exhibits as well.
