The Afterschool Alliance presented its annual Afterschool Champion Award to Elaine Wynn at a congressional breakfast in Washington, D.C., on May 14, recognizing her for service as co-chairwoman of the Greater Las Vegas Inner-City Games.
The award was presented by Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev.
Since 1996 the Greater Las Vegas Inner-City Games has partnered with the Clark County schools and with local Boys & Girls Clubs, and the YMCA to provide after-school services to more than 100,000 children. In 2002 the number of children in the program was 15,000. Inner-City Games services are offered free of charge to all children in Clark County between the ages of 7 and 17.
Wynn is director of Wynn Resorts and past director of Mirage Resorts Inc.
The Afterschool Alliance is a nonprofit public awareness and advocacy organization supported by a group of public, private and nonprofit entities dedicated to ensuring that all children have access to after-school programs by 2010.
