Letter: GOP comparable to ancient Rome
Friday, May 23, 2003 | 10:14 a.m.
In ancient Rome, the Caesars bought the loyalty of the populace with bread and circuses. Bread was distributed free, and entertaining spectacles were presented in the coliseums.
These days we can see the Republican version, with huge tax cuts being the bread. And while the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were justified, and our military performed superbly, Republicans are using them as their circus to distract us from their failed domestic policies.
I wonder if Americans will catch on to their ruse in time to turn George II out in 2004.
