Letter: Re-election is not possible
Wednesday, May 21, 2003 | 8:43 a.m.
It has been reported that President Bush has begun his re-election campaign, a formality to aid in fund-raising and other contingencies. But isn't this a bit of a misnomer? The president was not popularly elected, but rather selected by the Supreme Court, due to voting irregularities in Florida.
Unless he is planning on being re-selected by the court, his campaign should be titled an "election" campaign, since he is giving voters the possibility of voting him into office for the first time.
