Warning system for floods may be delayed

WASHINGTON -- The National Park Service may delay a $90,000 flood warning system in the Las Vegas Wash, according to a watchdog report.
The project is one of several suggested for cuts or delays as part of an effort by the park service to save about $4.6 million, according to report released Thursday by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility.
The cost savings are needed to pay for anti-terrorism efforts, including overtime pay for rangers, as well as a work "outsourcing" study, according to the group's analysis. President Bush has ordered the park service to consider giving jobs to groups outside government, the watchdog group said.
"These (project) cuts undo one of President Bush's only environmental bragging rights," group director Jeff Ruch said.
