To celebrate International Museum Day, admission to Nevada state museums will be free this Sunday.
Nevada has seven state museums. Southern Nevada museums include the Lost City Museum and the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society.
Included in the free-admission day:
Lost City Museum, 721 S. Highway 169, in Overton, is located an hour outside Las Vegas, near the Moapa Paiute Indian Reservation.
The museum is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It features Anasazi artifacts, reconstructed adobe structures and is built on a Pueblo Grande de Nevada archaeological complex. For more information, call (702) 397-2193.
The Nevada State Museum and Historical Society at 700 Twin Lakes Drive features Southern Nevada prehistory, history and natural history.
Its exhibit areas feature wildlife dioramas, gambling and mob history and recreations of a prehistoric Columbian Mammoth and an Ichthyosaur Shonisaurus popularis fossil.
Its newest exhibit, "Neon Unplugged, Signs from the Boneyard," features roughly 30 large-scale signs from old Las Vegas hotels and casinos. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For more information, call 486-5205.
