Fire causes $30,000 in damage
A fire Monday evening caused $30,000 in damage at Nick's Supper Club, Henderson Fire Department Batillion Chief Doug Koopman said.
The two-story restaurant, located at 15 E. Lake Mead Parkway near Water Street, caught fire about 5:17 p.m. The first units on the scene saw fire and smoke coming from the second floor office area, Koopman said.
No one was injured. The building was unoccupied at the time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Lobbyist on leave after DUI arrest
Kami L. Dempsey, Las Vegas' chief lobbyist, is on administrative leave after her arrest in Carson City last week on a charge of drunken driving in a city-owned vehicle.
Dempsey posted $1,300 bail and was released from the Carson City jail Thursday after her arrest in a residential neighborhood.
"I'm extremely apologetic and remorseful that I was pulled over in a city vehicle," she said in a prepared statement.
She will appear in Justice Court June 5.
Deputy City Manager Betsy Fretwell said today that Dempsey is on administrative leave with pay pending an investigation. Dempsey could face suspension or termination.

The fire started about 8:40 p.m. in the kitchen of Garvey's apartment in the Paradise Bay Club complex near Paradise and Flamingo roads. It caused $20,000 in damage and is still under investigation.
