Dessert Expo to debut here; furniture show out

A trade show focused on the creation of desserts will make its debut in Las Vegas this summer while a furniture trade show prepares to move out after this month.
Organizers of the Great American Dessert Expo say between 3,000 and 4,000 people are expected to attend the show, to be conducted in conjunction with the World Pastry Forum and the National Pastry Team Championships at the Las Vegas Convention Center July 2-3.
An estimated 150 exhibitors from around the world are expected to attend the event, which will include seminars and demonstrations on making desserts.
Meanwhile, a furniture trade show that has exhibited in Las Vegas for eight years will leave the city.
Karel Exposition Management's Furniture and Accessory Market, for manufacturers, designers, furniture stores, distributors and retailers, will move to Long Beach, Calif., next year.
Karel said growth in the regional furniture industry dictated a move to Southern California, where the company already conducted a regional show. The Florida company said it would reduce travel expenses by having two shows a year in Long Beach instead of alternating with Las Vegas.
