Do-not-call measure gutted

SUN CAPITAL BUREAU
The Senate Commerce and Labor Committee this morning completely gutted an Assembly do-not-call bill, replacing its language with that contained in a Senate version of the proposed telemarketing registry.
Assembly Bill 232, sponsored by Marcus Conklin, D-Las Vegas, had called for creation of a do-not-call registry with no exceptions. Committee Chairman Randolph Townsend, R-Reno, has a competing bill for a do-call registry, with some exceptions.
This morning's action sets up a potential battle between the two houses. The Assembly Judiciary Committee on Friday will consider Townsend's bill in a work session.
