Council OKs two properties for redevelopment

Redevelopment efforts in downtown North Las Vegas were given another push by the City Council on Wednesday with the unanimous approval of $244,500 for the purchase and demolition of two more properties off Lake Mead Boulevard.
The council, acting as the city Redevelopment Agency, authorized the purchase of 2032 North Fifth St., which is on the corner of Lake Mead, and 1914 Stanford St., which is less than a block south of Lake Mead.
Since 2001 the council has approved spending about $1.4 million to purchase and clear 11 properties, including the two approved Wednesday, in the Downtown Redevelopment Area.
City Community Development Director Jacque Risner said there are no specific plans for the properties at this time other than to demolish the buildings on the sites.
Eventually the city will group acquired properties and solicit development proposals for them, City Redevelopment Manager Kenny Young said.
The properties considered Wednesday both have vacant duplexes on them, Young said.
