Centennial stays unbeaten at 19-0
Thursday, May 8, 2003 | 10:20 a.m.
The perfect season continues for Centennial's boys' volleyball team.
The Bulldogs cruised through the quarterfinals of the Sunset Region Tournament Wednesday at Chaparral High School, easily eliminating Clark (SW-4), 25-13, 25-12, 25-13. Centennial, the top seed from the Northwest Division, ran its record to 19-0.
Centennial will meet Southwest second seed Bonanza, which struggled but took care of Mojave (NW-3), 22-25, 25-13, 25-20, 25-15. The Bulldogs defeated the Bengals earlier this season, and the teams meet today at 4:30 at Chaparral.
In the other Sunset semifinal, Sierra Vista will face Durango. The Lions (SW-3) pulled off a mild upset against Palo Verde (NW-2), defeating the Panthers, 25-23, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19. Southwest top seed Durango had little trouble with Cimarron-Memorial (NW-4), 25-11, 25-16, 25-15. That semifinal is tonight at 7:30.
In the Sunrise Region today at Chaparral, the host Cowboys (NE-1) take on Green Valley (SE-2) at 3 in a matchup of traditional powers. The other Sunrise semifinal pits Silverado (SE-1) and Las Vegas (NE-2) at 6.
Winners of today's semifinals earn berths to next week's 4A State Tournament, which begins Tuesday at Chaparral.
