The Clark County Commission on Tuesday thanked donors who have helped raise more than $24,000 for Clark County military families facing financial hardship because of deployment in support of the war in Iraq.
The commission established the Operation Home Front Trust Fund April 1, acting on a proposal by Commission Chairwoman Mary Kincaid-Chauncey. She was to present proclamations of thanks today to Richard and Denise Gonzalez, who donated $2,500, as well as Masonic Lodge No. 32, which donated $5,000. The Walters Group, which donated $10,000, also will be publicly thanked.
Funds are disbursed to families needing help with expenses such as rental assistance, mortgage payments, child care, car payments, utilities, food and similar expenses. Applications for aid are available at all Social Service Department offices, as well as the Nellis Air Force Base Family Support Center, the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, Giving Life Ministries, Nevada Association of Latin Americans, the Church of Christ, Lutheran Social Services of Nevada and the United Labor Agency of Nevada.
