Windy, cool weather continues
Windy and unseasonably cool temperatures are the words weather forecasters use to describe conditions in the Las Vegas Valley this week.
"The main thing is the temperatures are going to stay below normal," National Weather Service meteorologist Charlie Schlott said.
Instead of the mid-80s, daytime temps will stay in the 70s, perhaps dipping to the high 60s by Friday. Cold air is plunging from the Gulf of Alaska in three weather systems that will brush across Southern Nevada through the week, weather service forecaster Jon Adair said.
There is a slight chance of rain on Wednesday and Thursday, but no significant rainfall, and certainly not enough to break the ongoing drought, Schlott said.
Slaying suspect waives extradition
A man accused of killing his girlfriend in Las Vegas while her four children were in the house waived his right to an extradition hearing Monday and was expected to be returned to Las Vegas later this week.
Taiwan Allen, 29, who could face the death penalty if convicted, was accused in the death of Yashoma Clemons, 31, at her home.
The children waited alone with Clemons dead in the bedroom for four days before they were found on April 26 by Allen's sister and stepfather, records show.
An autopsy showed Clemons died from gunshot wounds.
Wisconsin Rapids police received a tip Friday that Allen was riding in a semitrailer truck in the area, leading to his arrest.
Another body found in trash
Metro Police are investigating the death of a man found early Monday in a trash bin at a strip mall in the 1000 block of North Rancho Drive.
The victim was apparently struck in the head, but Metro Lt. Tom Monahan said the official cause of death will be determined after an autopsy.
The body was discovered about 8 a.m., the second body found in or near a trash bin in a month.
Metro has been investigating the death of Julio Martinez-Ramirez, discovered inside a suitcase dropped beside a trash bin on April 18 at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of East Desert Inn Road.
Police have arrested Amado Rubio Gallegos Saturday on charges of murder with a deadly weapon in the Martinez-Ramirez case.
