Hearing set on Red Rock bill

Assemblyman Mark Manendo, D-Las Vegas, has scheduled a Las Vegas hearing May 10 on a bill that would limit development options on top of Blue Diamond Hill.

Manendo, chairman of the Assembly Government Affairs Committee, said he scheduled the hearing in Las Vegas to ensure that citizens concerned about potential development of the 2,400 acres on top the hill, and surrounded on three sides by the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, have a chance to comment.

The meeting on the bill proposed by state Sen. Dina Titus, D-Las Vegas, is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. The hearing will be in the Sawyer Building, 555 E. Washington Ave.

Titus' bill passed earlier this month 21-0 in the Senate.

Red Rock activist Evan Blythin said residents of the village of Blue Diamond, which has been the center of resistance to development proposals for the area, and other opponents to development on the land will attend the hearing.
