Lorenzi Park will host Cinco de Mayo

The seventh annual Cinco de Mayo festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lorenzi Park.

The festival will feature exhibits, displays, food and music.

Admission is $7, $2 for children, but listeners can pick up their free kids admission passes at participating Albertson's stores.

Seminars to help in buying homes

Two seminars, Stress Free Home Buying, will be offered from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Spanish and May 13 in English at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

The seminars will prepare participants for home ownership, learn from the professionals on how to select a home, the pre-qualification and closing processes, and how to finance your purchase.

USGS plans open house Saturday

The U.S. Geological Survey is opening its doors so the public can tour its new Las Vegas Integrated Science Center.

The USGS does urban-area mapping, including new imagery of Southern Nevada, studies desert ecosystems, including the behavior of the desert tortoise and the desert bighorn sheep, monitors ground water and does Lake Mead water quality tests.

The public is invited between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday at the USGS center at 160 N. Stephanie St. in Henderson.

Golf tournament to help baseball

Registration for the third annual Nevada Wildcats Baseball Club and UNLV Baseball Team Golf Tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Anthem Country Club, 1 Grosse Pointe Place, in Henderson.

A shotgun start for the benefit tournament will be at 10 a.m.

The Nevada Wildcats, a self-supporting nonprofit organization, will use the funds to offset travel expenses for the teams to attend national tournaments.

The registration fee is $225.
