Agencies lending support to troops
Thursday, March 27, 2003 | 9:38 a.m.
To support U.S. troops fighting in Iraq and their families at home, several agencies are lending support.
Funds: Nevada Benefits, an insurance company, and Bank of America have set up a fund to purchase calling cards for military personnel serving in the Persian Gulf. Donations may be made to account number 004964908781 at any Bank of America branch.
The American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter has set up an account through Wells Fargo Bank for its Quality of Life program for shipping items collected for the troops overseas. The Quality of Life Campaign account number is 5447102822.
Volunteers: The Defense Department and USA Freedom Corps have teamed up to launch "On the Home Front," a new resource for people who wish to support the troops, their families and their communities.
President Bush created the USA Freedom Corps Office at the White House to foster service, citizenship and responsibility.
Volunteer resources are available at 1-877-USA-CORPS or www.usafreedomcorps.gov.
Communications: Operation USA Care Package: Contribute to the purchase of a care package of items forwarded to troops containing items such as sunscreen, disposable cameras, prepaid calling cards and toiletries: www.usocares.org
