Vegas company fined by Pennsylvania
Wednesday, March 26, 2003 | 9:42 a.m.
Las Vegas-based U.S. Telecom Long Distance Inc. will pay $75,000 to settle a Pennsylvania lawsuit.
The company was accused of violating the state's "do-not-call" law, which prohibits telephone solicitors from calling voluntarily registered consumers. Pennsylvania Attorney General Mike Fisher said the company also used "confusing and deceptive" tactics to convince consumers to switch long distance providers. He said his office received more than 161 complaints against U.S. Telecom.
Calls to U.S. Telecom's Howard Hughes Parkway office went unanswered. The company is a certified long-distance provider in Nevada, and no complaints are pending against the company with the Nevada Public Utilities Commission or the state Bureau of Consumer Protection.
