Developer Tomlinson dies at 56

Las Vegas developer Mark Tomlinson died Sunday at a Las Vegas hospital at the age of 56.

Tomlinson, executive vice president of Pacific Properties & Development in Las Vegas and immediate past president and member of the executive committee and board of directors of the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association, had been hospitalized since March 10 following a choking incident at a local restaurant.

"This is a very sad day for Southern Nevada's homebuilding industry," Irene Porter, executive director of the home builders association, said.

"I have worked with Mark since the late '80s and feel a deep, personal loss as well as a profound loss at Pacific," Steve Molasky, chief executive officer of Pacific Properties, said.

Born in Wisconsin on Oct. 25, 1946, Tomlinson earned a degree in business administration at Arizona State University in 1972. After graduation he went to work for Security Pacific Bank in Los Angeles. He pursued an MBA at California State University at Long Beach.

In 1975 he joined Fredericks Development Corp., a new home and multi-family housing builder, in its Southern California office.

Fredericks merged with the Presley Companies in 1985 and Tomlinson was assigned to Phoenix.

He came to Las Vegas in 1989.

Tomlinson was an avid drag racer and a guitar player.

He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Loftis, of Texas, a son, Alex, of Southern California and two grandchildren.

Services are pending at Hites Funeral Home in Henderson.
