Columnist Muriel Stevens: Teen models keeping in fashion

Spring has sprung. Markets are filled with spring flowers. Shops are aglow with spring fashions, not only for women, but for men, teenagers and kids.

Macy's at Fashion Show mall is sponsoring an event aimed at teen girls who aspire to become models. On Saturday a teen-model search will take place at the Fashion Show store. After the model search, 10 local teens will be chosen to walk the runway on April 12, modeling the coolest dresses for this year's prom season.

It's all part of a Prom 2003 Style Tour promotion. Macy's has joined with Envy Models, John Robert Powers and Jerry Mettellus Photography for this "free teen extravaganza."

Applications are available at all Macy's stores. Reservations for the fashion show can be made by calling 691-3410 in advance. Seating is limited.

New shirt collections for men: New from Geoffrey Beene, Easy Care 100-percent cotton shirt fabric that's said to be the only cotton shirt on the market that, as the company states, "has both anti-wrinkle and anti-stain characteristics, and is machine-washable and dryer friendly."

For best results follow the washing instructions. Gorgeous spring colors and black and white. "White is spectacular, black is hip and flame red is hot." Solid colors still reign supreme; small patterns capture about 15 percent of total dress shirt sales. Easy Care shirts cost $39.50.

Redefined Keds: There's little that's sneakerlike in the spring line of Keds. These are definitely not your mother's Keds. These Keds are neat-o. Included in the spring line are vibrantly colored slides, thongs, mules, sandals and espadrilles. Can't decide what to choose? Buy a few pair. Keds are still affordable ranging in price from $25 to $40. Keds are available at department stores and retail locations nationwide

Bloomingdale's Bride Registry: Bloomingdale's Home & Furniture store in the Fashion Show recently hosted a splendid event for brides. This bridal registry event included complimentary admission for all brides, a light champagne reception hosted by the Four Seasons, guest speakers and a couture bridal show. Bloomingdale's offers special events throughout the year. To learn about upcoming events call 784-5400.

Oz and Easter at Galleria: Help Dorothy find the Easter Bunny at the Galleria at Sunset. Joining Dorothy in the search will be the the Scarecrow and the Wicked Witch of the West, who promises not to be too wicked.

The trio will sing and dance their way to the food court on April 5 for three shows: 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. After Dorothy and friends find the lovable Easter Bunny, youngsters of all ages can meet and greet the storybook characters. There's more fun planned, so call 434-0202 for more info.
