Account set up to buy calling cards for troops

An area businessman has set up a joint account to receive donations for buying calling cards for the U.S. troops in Iraq, and is organizing a rally today to support U.S. troops.

The account is held at Bank of America and the amount of money raised to date will be announced at a rally to support the troops being held today in Summerlin, said Phil Randazzo, an insurance broker who organized the account and the rally.

Randazzo said many of his friends have family members in the conflict and he wanted to do something to help them.

"The idea came to me after seeing all the anti-war rallies on TV," Randazzo said.

The businessman said he has received more than 1,000 e-mails and expects up to 5,000 people to attend a rally at 5 p.m. today at 9505 Hillwood Drive in Summerlin.
